The Responsible Transportation Safety, will be called upon to plan, coordinate, manage and monitor transportation safety operations. He or she will be responsible for ensuring all transportation-related legislative and regulatory requirements are met. He or she must also handle violations, manage safety-related risks and develop safety plans. In addition to routine duties, he or she will liaise with operations managers, government officials, clients and senior executives.

The Responsible, Transportation Safety must be mobile in order to be able to cover Groupe Robert’s terminals, workshops and distribution centres in non-central locations.

Your responsibilities will be as follows:

• Ensure compliance with transportation-related laws and regulations
• Evaluate, maintain and develop transportation safety programs to prevent accidents and ensure adherence to rules and procedures
• Provide follow-up with regard to various North American safety ratings (PEVL, CVOR, DOT) in conjunction with Groupe Robert’s legal department
• Deal with fines and failed roadside inspections
• Conduct an extensive review of all accidents and violations; determine the causes and responsible parties
• Work with the team to implement corrective and preventive measures
• Provide support to and work with the prevention and training group
• Administer risk management and safety when new industry rules are implemented or new acquisitions or special projects are introduced, in collaboration with the WHS, legal and insurance teams
• Play an active role in managing emergency situations, developing contingency plans and ensuring the corresponding actions are put into place
• Develop and conduct internal site audits
• Coordinate hearings at the request of insurance firms, government agencies or clients
• Represent the transportation safety department in dealings with various organizations and insurers
• Ensure hazardous materials compliance
• Oversee accident investigations, head the committee and ensure that the resulting preventive measures are put into place
• Serve as the main resource with regard to “weights and dimensions” and specialized equipment

In order to join Groupe Robert's team, you must have:

• Ten or more years of experience and/or education in a sector related to road transportation
• Specific knowledge of all applicable transportation safety legislation
• Keen political acumen
• Solid analytical, processing and decision-making skills
• Strong sense of leadership and ability to forge business partnerships and harmonious relations with various internal and external parties; a true team player
• Aptitude for communication and writing
• Knack for conveying a clear vision of safety and working toward stated goals
