HISTORY
Rosario Robert, a determined and bold entrepreneur founded the family business in 1946. He had the ability
to adapt to his customer’s needs who, in turn, gave him their ongoing support and loyalty that enabled him to
build credibility in a strongly regulated industry.
Robert Bernard, a well-known businessman became a partner in the company in 1962. After Rosario Robert’s
sudden death, his wife, Réjeanne took over the business.
In 1973, the company moved into a second generation of management when Claude Robert, a young chartered
accountant and Gérard Bernard, a business administrator, joined forces to continue the companys
growth.
During the 80’s, the North American trucking industry plunged into deregulation. Claude Robert, the
company’s innovative and visionary leader, invested in state-of-the-art logistics technology and the company
became a leader in providing services to the supply chain management industry. This enabled the company to
distance itself from the competition by providing value-added services to its customers.
Another management challenge that Claude Robert faces is to make certain that the family business continues
on the same path. The company’s shareholders are as follows: the Robert family – 75% and
the Fonds de Solidarité des Travailleurs du Québec – 25%.
The present leadership is at a stage where they must pass the torch on to the next generation by sharing their
savoir-faire, their experience and their traditional family values. Michel, Julie and Isabelle Robert along with
their colleagues make up this third generation and they will continue the passion that the company has for
customer satisfaction, employee respect and continued growth for the shareholders. These elements will ensure
Groupe Robert’s continued prosperity.
